Wait for the Light

The nursery rhyme “Tiān Hēi Hēi” (Sky Darkening) was banned during Taiwan’s martial law period because it was believed to allude to the darkness of society. The story draws inspiration from an elderly gentleman I know, who spent more than a decade in Green Island Prison. He said, “When I left Green Island, I realized that I had merely moved from a small prison to a larger one.” The historical records capture only a few lines, yet they encompass the ups and downs of many lives. This elderly gentleman, once a musician, experienced a significant shift in his later years. Through visual creation, I aim to commemorate that past and the souls who struggled for a brighter sky, using symbols and music.

天黑黑這首童謠於台灣戒嚴時期因被認為其暗指社會黑暗而列為禁歌。 故事取材自認識的老先生，曾在綠島監獄待了十幾年的他說：「當我離開了綠島，發現只是從小監獄換到了更大的牢籠。」在歷史書中所記載的幾行字容納了眾多生命的起伏跌宕，讓這位曾是音樂家的老先生在後半生有了很大的轉折。藉由影像創作，以符號與音樂紀念那段過去以及為了獲得明朗天空而努力的靈魂。
